(Obviously, the black-masked anarchists and crazy moonbats are unlikely to be members of the Democratic Party. These jerks vote for weird third parties you’ve never heard of, or don’t bother to vote at all. Some of them get funding from ANSWER, which is a Communist organization set up during the Venona files days, and it’s probably having a resurgence these days thanks to foreign funding from sources similar to those which began it. I want to say that first.)
It’s a sad, sick day for America when peaceful democratic discourse, or even the odd bit of physically lively discourse in bars, is replaced by throwing bleach in the eyes of arriving delegates, or throwing 90 pound bags of cement or sand from overpasses onto busloads of convention attendees, or trying to frighten a busload of Cub Scouts while holding their bus prisoner. That’s what was happening today to folks coming to the Republican convention.
It could have been worse: the police seized some rather nasty anarchist stockpiles just beforehand.
Now, let’s add the further sickening fact that the rest of America was busy worrying about Hurricane Gustav and Hanna coming on behind; and that the Republican leadership had already announced that the convention would be less a festive gathering and more of a telethon for hurricane victims.
Now consider what the anarchists used. Sandbags. Cement. Bleach. Things that come in useful before and after hurricanes, used as weapons on fellow citizens. Fellow citizens who, unlike these anarchists, have spent a long time working for political objectives through those slow, peaceful methods called “association”, “persuasion” and “compromise”.
The objective, of course, is to make ordinary people of all parties either too frightened to oppose the anarchists, or too angry to react sensibly. So remember that Ben Franklin’s admonition is still true:
“We must hang together, or assuredly we will all hang separately.”

I’m not American, so this is the first time I read about this. I think your point about the sandbags, cement and bleach is revealing: these “props” take the story beyond irony. So many of us see everything through a glass darkly!

I thought ANSWER was actually a front for the PLO actually, given their obsessive hatred of Israel.
(We hates them, precious.)
Why did I think you were on blogspot?

Because I miss green letters on black and really long text files?
Glad to see your typeface!

Now that I look at my reply, that wasn’t very coherent…
I used to be on Blogspot, but moved over to WordPress a few years back. So you weren’t wrong to think that I was on Blogspot.
Also, ANSWER was founded by the KGB, but has apparently had some very interesting changes in funding over the years. (That’s what happens when the USSR money-spigot was turned off.)
