Are You Sure This Is Chartres and Not My Parish Back in the Day?

From the back files of Life magazine, a woman who looks exactly like every adult female member of my parish during the 70′s.

Women who wear scarves at Mass, these days, tend to wear scarves at Mass in some weird ways. The Muslima look is probably not what you want to go for, and the babushka look is really meant for genuine babushkas only. The Frenchwoman in the picture demonstrates what used to be the default. Here are some younger ladies wearing scarves, as a further demonstration. Old pictures of Queen Elizabeth II are also good for this.

Of course, if you’re going to be outside in the wind, you can cover up a bit more hair. But if you cover it all up, it’s not going to look right.
