One of the victims of the Aurora massacre was Matt McQuinn, a native of Springfield, Ohio. He had recently moved to Colorado, along with his girlfriend Samantha Yowler and her brother, Nick Yowler, both from St. Paris, Ohio. The couple had transferred from a Springfield Target store to one in Colorado.
When the shooting broke out, both men tried to shield Miss Yowler with their bodies. Her brother was unharmed, Miss Yowler had to go to the hospital and get surgery for a knee wound, and Mr. McQuinn was killed.
As the movie said, “Anyone can be a hero.” But that’s just words. Matt McQuinn lived it.
Springfield’s flags are flying at half-staff today.
UPDATE: “Local Victim Died a Hero, Loved Ones Say”. They’re collecting money to bring his body home for burial and cover funeral expenses.
