US Air Force Folksongs

I grew up knowing there was a repertoire of songs I never heard from the Air Force folks in my town, like the famous “Itazuke Tower” song (to the tune of “Wabash Cannonball”) that has its own exhibit in the Air Force Museum.

These are not sweet inoffensive songs to play to your kids, folks!

Fighter University has a big song blog.

Here’s a very small list of some of the common repertoire songs from back in the day.

Oscar Brand recorded a fair number of military folksongs. Here’s “Throw a Nickel on the Grass” (also to an older tune) and “Bell-Bottom Trousers.” He did non-worksafe army songs too.

Here’s a more recent song about the Armed Forces Network and their PSAs, and here’s a funny song about “World War III.”

Here’s a nice, clean, semi-official song: “US Air Force Blue.”
