Early Christian Amanda

St. Paulinus of Nola had a friend named Aper, whose wife was named Amanda. When Amanda died, Paulinus wrote Aper a comforting note about Amanda’s life and achievements, using a lot of Valiant Woman quotes.

I mention this because there are some early Christian male saints named Amandus, but Amanda I hadn’t seen before.

Of course the name came back in the 1600’s or so, with all the Belindas and such. But it’s nice to know that it was around back in the day!

  1. The name just kind of faded for over a thousand years?

That is… cool, but a little scary!
