US Doctor Who/Torchwood: Just Add Pedophile

Torchwood: Miracle Day will include a pedophile character whom audiences are supposed to like.

No, I am not kidding.

Yes, we should tar and feather every BBC writer and executive and actor who goes along with this. And I don’t mean that figuratively, since they apparently think they should literally rape our childhoods and our children. The only bright spot is that the show is on Starz in the US, and I think only about three people actually subscribe to that cable channel.

Via Five Feet of Fury.

UPDATE: No, he’s not supposed to be racked with guilt, as far as one can tell from publicity materials.

He’s also supposed to be somebody who was being executed but didn’t die. (Except that even massively serial pedophilic rape isn’t a death penalty crime in the US, so obviously he must have done murder on at least one person also.)

  1. Imagine if they went really extreme– had a chaste, religious homosexual who’s a standard political conservative.

They’d have protests in the streets.

They may have lost their minds. Of course, a lot depends on how the character is depicted. Is he wracked with guilt? I don’t think I’ll be tuning in to find out though.

  3. It’s like Mark Shea has predicted for years:

One day, we will be scolded by our “betters” for committing “pedophile-ophobia.”

There will be award winning plays about the brave, misunderstood child molester. Someone in authority, with a highly visible position, will declare themselves a proud American Man-Boy Lover.

they’ll think up a cute name for themselves (think: “gay”) that we will all be obliged to use — until they change it something else five years later. You know the drill…

Pedophilia is being mainstreamed throughout the culture, just like transsexuality.

  5. Apparently, he raped and murdered a 12 year old girl.

And blames her for not running away fast enough when he’s caught.

They didn’t do very good at getting ANY American laws correct.

    • And yet John Barrowman is sure that we will come to like this ‘charming’ character, even though we are not supposed to like his actions. I suppose that almost anybody might look good next to the creepy personnel of Torchwood (aka the cast of Friends made stupider and less moral), but….

It’s a good thing for the BBC execs that God took Elisabeth Sladen and Nicholas Briggs before they saw this day. I know a lot of the veteran actors really adore their kids and grandkids, and I suspect that this is not going to go over well with them. Not well, like “Hm, who do I know who likes dark alleys and pointy things?”
